SUSAN SHOEMAKER, AIA, LEED AP is a member of the American Institute of Architects, a licensed Architect in the state of California and a US Green Building Council Accredited Professional. She is also an active member in a number of architectural organizations. She is a dynamic leader that is committed to design excellence. She has over 35 years of professional experience in architecture, designing and realizing a diverse range of international projects embracing master plans, urban plans, mixed-use development, urban housing, schools, colleges, universities, and civic and cultural projects.

As an experienced professional and the Director of RAW-NYC’s New York office, Susan is known for her creative, thoughtful generation of design concepts; in-depth knowledge of the design process from inception through construction; experience in a diverse range of building types; strong working relationships with public and private sector clients; experience leading projects with in-house teams and consultants; specific skills in research, programming and strategic planning; and experience implementing Green and Sustainable practices.

134 loft dwelling units arranged around a skylit court, with roof gardens, street level retail, set in a historic district, with environmental remediation, built 2012.

 

+ William Rainey Harper College Palatine, IL

Master Plan creating campus places to enhance student success and the college experience, with new green entrance and orientation to rediscovered landscape, 2011.

 

+ Albert Einstein College of Medicine Bronx, NY

Master Plan providing an inspiring setting for scientific education, collaboration and research, with “Main Street” to bring campus communities together, multiple projects, 2008-2012. 

 

 

+ Houston Northern Intermodal Development Houston, TX. Multimodal interchange oriented around “Great Space,” with stations, urban housing, shops, offices, hotels, UHD campus in new urban quarter along bayou, 2006. 

 

+ Coney Island Redevelopment Brooklyn, NY

Mixed-use development integrated into historic waterfront amusement district, urban housing, Water Park, shops, hotels, and new entertainment uses, 2006.

 

+ Guadalajara Media Park Guadalajara, Mexico

Film/TV/Media Center, Design Center, Water Park, mixed-use development on 98 acre site, near University of Guadalajara Cultural Center and campus, 2005.

Master Plan/Architectural Design of university arts campus with “academic street” linking new and existing classrooms, studios and exhibition space, built 1996.

 

+ Richmond Interchange London, England

New rail concourse, urban housing, offices, shops, museum, cinema, public squares and lanes in historic town center; won in Railtrack competition, 600,000 sf, 1998.
