The Towers on Market (“The Towers”) is located near the heart of downtown Indianapolis. It will be a “Main Street” destination; a place where a new residential and retail neighborhood can link the existing downtown business district to the emerging areas of Massachusetts Avenue, Lockerbie, Central Business District, Warehouse District, and neighborhoods to the south and east of the MSA site.Two new urban pocket parks will be situated to the north and south of East Market Street, and east of Alabama. These parks, along with the cultural trail and streetscape improvements, will create a new, inviting and attractive public setting for both residential living and successfulretail development.
The Towers is to be located on the site of the former Market Square Arena. It is the first phase of a larger, vibrant neighborhood plan, designed to integrate housing with shopping and to spuradditional residential development to the east. The placement of retail stores and residential units of various types and sizes on both sides of Market Street, with proximity to work places and the city’s cultural center, will create a new urban live, work, play neighborhood. A reinvigorated City Market will anchor the west end of the site, and a new supermarket located at the southeast portion of the intersection of New Jersey and Market Streets will anchor the eastend. The addition of a new “lifestyle” retail and residential center will integrate attractions and uses – and increase values – of all areas along the entire Market Street corridor.
