The redevelopment of this complex was part of a new public-private initiative by the NYC Educational Construction Fund to develop new school facilities for NYC’s public schools. Two existing public schools - The High School of Art and Design and PS 59 were replaced with new state-of-the-art facilities with a separate residential tower and ground floor retail spaces. Parking and loading areas for each use were provided below grade. EEK under the design leadership of Raya Ani won the mixed-use project for the World Wide Group as part of an invited competition competing against Steven Hall Architects and another developer. The whole project was completed by SOM in 2016.
