Sports Complex

Sports Complex – Qatar

The concept is expressed in the ever- expanding trunk, roots and branches connecting all aspects of the building inside and out. The roof, facades and the interior are all weaved together by the growth of the tree trunk and branches which in turn support the structure. The two soccer field courts are placed within a square volume where light is filtered between the branches of the roof, providing an experience similar to lying underneath a tree. The simple form takes its inspiration from history where they used simple lines and proportions while the four corners are rounded off to express the soft lines of the mass, in line with Aspire city’s curvilinear shapes.

The program (2 soccer fields, reception, offices, café, viewing gallery, sports store, changing rooms, lockers and toilets) represents the different indoor functions placed within a landscaped environment. The building supports the theme of a communal setting where one can socialize with others within the structure or underneath the comforting shade of a large tree talking about life and sports. The roots of the tree spread through the floor as well as on the roof, creating a pattern reflected throughout the structure.
